We believe everyone should have access to legal support, no matter their circumstances.
Plumstead Community Law Centre is a free legal advice centre located in central Woolwich in South East London. We provide legal advice and advocacy in the areas of immigration, welfare benefits and employment to those who live, work or study in Greenwich. Our services are designed to particularly provide free support to those who would otherwise be unable to afford legal services privately. People can access our services via telephone or email, and through the Advice Hub outreach services we attend in local community centres.

In 2024 over 1,400 local people accessed our advice and representation services, resulting in a range of financial and non-financial benefits. We secured financial gains totalling £636,000 in 2024/2025 through, for example, immigration fee waivers, back dated benefits awards, and employment settlements. Feedback also told us that after accessing our services, people felt their understanding of their legal position had significantly improved, they felt happier and less anxious and more optimistic about the future. Many had their immigration status improved or regularised or had their detention prevented, and we helped over 200 people with their e-visa applications.

Towards the end of 2024, we moved away from our collective structure towards a hierarchical set up. We have now appointed an Interim CEO and expanded our trustee board's size and expertise. Our focus for 2025 is to now focus on securing additional funding to expand our services to reach more people, and to secure a legal aid contract to allow us to support those in need of asylum support.

We are extremely grateful to our funders at Royal Borough of Greenwich Council, The National Lottery, Groundwork, AB Charitable Trust, and the Julia Rausing Trust for supporting us to provide legal services to more people than ever. Our thanks also extends to those who have donated to our Law Centre over the last few years, helping us to continue to provide vital services in the borough. Thank you to you all!
